Sophia Bel announces new album with lush ballad Rat Race

Sophia Bel is back with Rat Race, a modern-day manifesto. After years of tech fatigue, the Montreal-based singer-songwriter and musician returns to transport listeners into a lush and airy soundscape, far from the never-ending cycle of the matrix. Rat Race is the lead single from When The Cows Come Home, Sophia Bel’s second album, to be released May 7th, 2027 on all music services.

Listen to Rat Race

Honest, vulnerable, yet dreamy, this song echoes the sound of late-90s and early-aughts British alternative anthems, such as The Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony. It provides a glimpse into the themes and stylistic direction of When The Cows Come Home, marking the start of a new chapter for the artist.

With her 2022 debut album Anxious Avoidant, Sophia Bel earned a spot on the year-end lists of several music outlets, including RANGE Magazine, Exclaim! and CJLO. The record was also warmly welcomed by several publications upon its release, including Le Devoir, Le Canal Auditif and EUPHORIA.

About Sophia Bel

In a world of masks and convention, Sophia Bel’s devotion to transparency opens a much-needed space to truly feel, where the noise and endless routines of modern life give way to the comforting silence of our inner world. After releasing the angsty, appropriately titled debut album Anxious Avoidant in 2022, she stepped away from the rat race to recuperate from tech fatigue and the relentless pressures of social media. In 2026, she enters a new chapter.

Drawn to the spaces between chaos and stillness, the Montreal-based singer-songwriter explores what it means to be human in an increasingly distracted world. Blending intimate songwriting with dreamy, organic soundscapes, she transforms everyday moments into quiet reflections on identity, connection, and meaning. In a culture driven by constant stimulation and productivity, her work is a gentle reminder that stillness, vulnerability, and reflection are not indulgences.
