Latin-Gaspesian folk artist Luan Larobina is officially announcing her signature to Montreal label Bonsound with the release of Voz de mi vida, a festive, uplifting song that blends the irresistible rhythm of cumbia with the intimacy of indie folk. This is her first single since the April 2025 release of CASA, her previous EP.
\n Listen to Voz de mi vida\nVoz de mi vida is a sort of tribute to Luan Larobina’s father, to whom the singer-songwriter expresses her gratitude for passing on to her the power of music. A musician himself, he used it to build a connection with his new community upon his arrival from Mexico, just as Luan uses it today to share her inner world with us. When my father arrived in Gaspésie, he didn’t speak French, Luan explains. From a very young age, I realized that he used music to connect with others, and that’s something that has stayed with me my whole life. I’ve experienced it myself; our shared love of music has allowed us to build a bridge between him and I, one that goes beyond words and transcends our differences.
Mixing Latin traditions with contemporary Québécois folk, Voz de mi vida is a perfect example of Luan Larobina’s use of music for strengthening her connection to her mixed identity. Produced, arranged and co-composed by Cédrik St-Onge (guitar, vocals), the song also features Cédric Dind-Lavoie (double bass), Vincent Carré (drums), her brother (Edaï Larobina, percussion), and her father (Juan Sebastian Larobina, ronroco).
About Luan Larobina
Born in Gaspé, Quebec to an Argentine father and a Gaspesian mother, Luan Larobina draws her inspiration from her Latin roots and the nuances of the St. Lawrence River. Her music bridges both identities, unfolding through delicate melodies and lyricism that’s attuned to the nature and vulnerability of human emotions. To her, songwriting is a vehicle for sharing that transcends differences, making room for intuition and authenticity.
Luan Larobina’s work is deeply rooted in her mixed heritage; she strikes a masterful balance between various forms of Latin folk (Buena Vista Social Club, Natalia Lafourcade) and the past and present of Québécois chanson (Harmonium, Klô Pelgag, Safia Nolin, Philippe Brach), complemented by her velvety voice and an attention to detail evident from composition to production. Her vivid and contemplative writing is rich in references to her native region of Gaspésie, which serve as poetic anchors through which she explores interpersonal relationships, introspection, her mixed identity, and her experience as a second-generation immigrant. Beyond self-discovery, Larobina’s artistic intent is connection; having grown up in a musical family, with a musician father and a music-loving mother, she discovered the unifying power of music at a very young age, whether by accompanying her father on tour or by sharing her mother’s love for her favorite songs.
After graduating from the École nationale de la chanson in 2021, Luan Larobina quickly made a name for herself as a finalist at Ma première Place des Arts and a semifinalist at the Festival international de la chanson de Granby. In 2025, she released CASA, her debut EP produced by close collaborator Cédrik St-Onge, then joined the second iteration of the Nikamu Mamuitun collective. The next year, she competed in the Francouvertes, one of the most important music competitions for francophone artists in Quebec; she charmed the audience with a heartfelt, lively, and authentic performance that earned her the first position. That same year, Luan won the jury’s prize at the Cabaret Festif!. Everything is set for the world to fall under the spell of her Latin indie folk sound.
